I am a young activist who is passionate about the plight of women in my country and around the globe. I have particular interest in empowering young women and helping find a voice in their community to become successful individuals.

As much as I'd like to consider myself as very patriotic, I'd be lying if I said that I lived in a Utopian society.
I find myself at odds with what my culture and tradition has outlined for me as a female.

Growing up I've had my share of 'don't wear that, its too short', 'where were you, girls shouldn't be out late' 'Go to the kitchen like a girl' 'Stop screaming and act like a girl'.........and the list goes on.
As obedient and surbodinate as I became (little angel that I am...lol...), I never came to a full acceptance of my pre-destined role in society as a GIRL.
I began to question alot of things.....

-Why should girls be cautioned not to enjoy freedom at night for fear of being raped while boys are given this liberty without ever being told not to commit such acts? Its almost like society condones such behaviour from men, and instead of addressing the issue with them, the girls get the blunt end of the stick by having their freedom intruded upon.

- Why do women prepare every single meal and expected to eat last?

- Why is a girl, pregnant out of wedlock, looked upon in disdain when we all know that it takes two to tango?

- Why do people stereotype loud girls as attention seekers and say 'boys will be boys' when they are just as boisterous if not more?

-Why am I not allowed to wear shorts in front of my own brothers when they can go shirtless in front of me?

-Why are women only to be seen and not heard?

......and this list too goes on and on........

The saddest fact of the whole thing is that in most cases, its the women themselves that subject themselves and the younger generation to full subordination of this patriarchal form of 'etiquette' and social living.

I may sound like the most fanatical feminist out there ready to wield the sword of retribution and reform at my male counterparts and I'll leave you to believe that if you wish.........but my concerns are not about female domination and the complete annihilation of the male race. In fact I appreciate men. I like a few cuddles now and then, I like the feeling of being protected, sitting in the passenger seat and letting a guy drive, if you hold the door open for me or pull my seat out before a meal I'm sooo totally taken......lol.....
The above does not imply that I and many other like minded young ladies want only to be doted upon then turn around and turn into screeching banshees when faced with the 'hard knocks' of a mans world.
Abit of a balance should be in order.

Other then that,I don't mind cooking, cleaning, washing. What I do mind is that these things 'define' a woman. Thus there is a lack of appreciation because 'Why should one be thanked for what one 'MUST' do?".....do you get my drift?

Before I pen off let me say that I really dont have any idea why the last few paragraphs have little link to the first paragraph (well maybe it does). But my minds deciding to go on a holiday at the moment, so I'll have to leave editing 'about me' into something more relevant until my brain decides that thinking isn't so bad after all.
